Templeton Academy, a rigorous, college preparatory micro school located in the heart of Capitol Hill, announced that Dr. Laura DeLima has been appointed Head of School. With an average class size of just ten students, and block scheduling – which allows for longer class periods and deeper learning – Templeton Academy provides a highly personalized learning environment that encourages hands-on experiences drawn from Washington’s rich cultural and educational resources.

Dr. Laura DeLima appointed Head of School at Templeton Academy, a first-of-its kind experiential high school

“Our founding mission is to transform the lives of our students by providing highly individualized, experiential education in small classes with dedicated and skilled educators,” said Temp Keller, Founder and President. “Laura has tremendous experience not just as an educator, but as an innovative school leader with principles that match our founding vision. Her commitment to rigorous, personalized education will make her invaluable to the students and families we serve.”

DeLima, who previously opened and led the Washington, DC campus of Fusion Academy, has a career that spans more than fifteen years of leadership at the intersection of educational research, practice and innovation. She holds a B.A. from Vassar College, a Masters in Education Policy from the University of Wisconsin, and earned her Doctorate in Education from The George Washington University.

“Laura possesses a truly rare combination of mission connection, instructional leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking,” said Temp Keller, Founder and President. “I could not be more excited about the road ahead for our school, and most importantly, our students.”

Founded in 2015, Templeton Academy graduates are accepted, each year, at many of the nation’s top colleges and universities, including Bard College, University of Wisconsin Madison College of Engineering, Temple University Honors Program, and Savannah College of Art and Design. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA).  Last month, Templeton launched its second campus in Nashville, TN, which now serves more than 80 students in grades 5 through 12.

Templeton Academy D.C. is reimagining high school by creating experiential, personalized experiences for students in grades 9-12. With an average class size of just 10 students, we offer an academically rigorous college preparatory curriculum designed to foster intellectual curiosity through active learning and community exploration. Small-school design and small class size allow us to create a student-centered environment that allows students to take the lead – and fall in love with learning.
