Did you know April is National Library Month, a celebration of the important contributions made by our nation's libraries and library workers? This year’s theme is “Libraries = Strong Communities,” highlighting the value of academic, public, and school libraries across the country.
When Templeton Academy started laying the foundation for our new school community here in Nashville, one of the first things Head of School Kalee Barbis did was launch a book club to bring together prospective students and their families to share, learn, and meet one another. With every new book we read together, we continue to expand our learning circle as more students and families join the Templeton Academy community.
Recently, we came together to talk about What School Could Be by Ted Dintersmith. As a parent with a rising 6th grade Templeton Academy student, I am excited about being a founding family of a school that is committed to helping students become actualized adults, ready for the next stage of their lives and prepared to make a positive impact in the world.
Templeton Academy is dedicated to creating an environment where innovation thrives and students develop the skills they need to excel in our ever-changing world. Reading and sharing our thoughts on What School Could Be was a great way to learn more about their innovative solutions to outdated education practices. The author describes how implementing the smallest of changes in the classroom can make a huge impact on a student’s ability to learn, process, think, and solve problems. In the book, visionary teachers from all 50 states shared their own success stories.
We’d love you to join us for the next book club event on Thursday, April 25th at 10 AM. We are reading The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. Join us to meet other Templeton Academy families and learn more about Templeton Academy’s education model. You can learn more and sign-up to attend on the events section of the website.
